3rd Year Undergraduate Project 2

 

Buitenkant Street, Cape Town

​

One 15x15m plot is assigned to each student with a 25m height restriction. These plots form a city block of adjacent buildings. The intention is to design a residential building. One needs to consider the buildings relevance in the present  and how it is relevant in 200 years time, as well as many other factors ( context, history and sustainability). To quote Kevin Fellingham, who wrote the brief,  “buildings are good if they make spaces and places in which ordinary people doing ordinary things experience  their life to have been better than if the architect hadn’t made a good building and helped to make a better piece of the city” - this was the part of the brief which I took inspiration from
